Tennessee Businesses Against Trafficking

Tennessee Businesses Against Trafficking

Wednesday, January 21, 2026 (5:30 PM - 8:00 PM) (CST)

Description

When we hear of human trafficking we often assume it is victims coming over the border in tandem with sex trafficking. The latest statistics show that our assumptions are wrong. Based on the statistics of those caught and prosecuted, 58% of victims are trafficked within their own country. This means most trafficked individuals are United States citizens. Victims of trafficking for labor purposes has surpassed sexual trafficking as of 2022 and the number of minors being trafficked is double that of adults. In 2023 there were 210 known victims (known victims, not the actual number of victims) of trafficking in the state of Tennessee. It is happening right under our noses and though most of us would do anything to stop this horrific trade from continuing, we just don't know what we're looking for. That's where our elected officials, both past and present come in. They are committed to joining forces with businesses to put a stop to this tragedy. There will be a training offered on January 21, 2026 (January 28th in case of inclement weather) at UT Martin Somerville. Training is free! Thank you for being willing to help stop human trafficking in all forms and from all locations.
